Katarina Witt began ice skating when she was five. When her talent for skating was more evident her admission was granted to an Karl-Marx-Stadt school, which focuses on youngsters with athletic talent. They got to know Jutta Muller in this school. Witt became a star in 1982, after she was second in the World Championships at Copenhagen. Since then, Witt's grace and beauty have captivated all the attention of people. Olympic Success In Sarajevo, at the Sarajevo Winter Games in 1984, Katarina won the gold medal in figure skating for women in a highly competitive contest. Then, four years after that she was able to take home an even intense race. The free skater was unable to win however she was awarded the gold medal in the mandatory figures and her short programme. Witt is the first figure skater female who has won the same event twice after Sonja Heine. Hall of Fame Witt, who had achieved success in film as an actress before returning to figure skating to compete at the Lillehammer Winter Games 1994. She placed seventh but enchanted the crowd even though she didn't win a medal. Witt's induction into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame was held in 1995.
